Field Trip to the ROM

Picture
MoOur field trip to the ROM will take place on  December 4. You must arrive at the SCHOOL GROUPS ENTRANCE to the ROM (SOUTH entrance) at 8:30 having eaten breakfast. I will take attendance and advise WCI if you are not present.  For coloured map and online directions as to how to get there, please go to http://www.rom.on.ca/visit/map.php

Public Transportation
If you are arriving on the Bloor-Danforth subway line, the ST. GEORGE stop (Bedford exit) is closest to the ROM. Walk east from Bedford one block to Avenue Road and turn right (south) onto Queen’s Park. Go to the SOUTH entrance of the ROM (designated for schools). This is where we will meet, just inside the doors.

If you are arriving on the Yonge-University-Spadina subway line e.g. Downsview or Lawrence West, get off at the MUSEUM stop and exit onto the west side of station to avoid crossing the street, which is dangerous!. The ROM School Entrance is located right beside the subway exit.

Lunch: Make sure you bring a lunch or lunch money. You may consume a packed lunch in the ROM School Visits Lunch Room or eat in the ROM CAFETERIA in the Basement. You may also exit the building to sample one of the eateries along Bloor St. and in the neighbourhood.

What to bring: Besides 1) lunch or $; bring 2) a clipboard; 3) the assignment SHEET;

4)  pencil/pen; 5) notepad; 6) camera is optional as photography is allowed in SOME areas of the building and might prove useful for your assignment. Do NOT bring a regular backpack unless you are prepared to hang it in the unattended school area.

Schedule: From 9:00 – 10:30 we will do a LAB or EXHIBIT LESSON From 11:00 – 12:20 you are free to go for lunch. From 1:00 – 2:30 we will be doing an EXHIBIT or LAB LESSON. From  2:30 – 4:00 p.m. you will tour the galleries on your own again to find artefacts for your assignment. I recommend that you at least visit the Daphne Cockwell Gallery of Canada: First Peoples on Level 1. You may leave at any time after 3 p.m. or you may stay on until the ROM closes at 5 p.m. You have paid for unlimited access to the ROM galleries, not just for the lessons.

You will be marked based on the rubric attached.

Due date: Mon Dec 18
